Tips

  • Feta cheese is very salty! So don’t add any salt until after you have whipped it until smooth. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
  • If it’s still too salty for your taste, try pulsing in a little mayonnaise, sour cream, or Greek yogurt.
  • Choose a good quality block of feta cheese in brine instead of pre-crumbled. Crumbled feta cheese is usually dry and won’t give you the same creamy texture. But it will be easier to process if you crumble the feta cheese before placing it in the food processor.
  • Mince the garlic clover before adding it to the food processor. You don’t want chunks of garlic in the dip.

Variations

  • Make it your own by adding 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil, dried dill, dried oregano, or dried thyme.
  • Want it a little spicy? Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes. Or use hot honey for the garnish.
  • Aleppo pepper flakes will add a mild heat with a little sweetness akin to sun-dried tomatoes.
  • Garnish with your favorite fresh herbs, such as chopped chives, fresh mint, or fresh basil.
  • Top with chopped pistachios, sesame seeds, or toasted pine nuts.

FAQs

Can this be made ahead?

Absolutely! It actually tastes better after the flavors have time to combine in the fridge. Place it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Don’t garnish until ready to serve. Chilled whipped feta dip will become pretty firm, so for a softer dip let it sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour. Garnish and serve.

Storing
