How to Make Clam Dip

  • Drain the clams thoroughly! Reserve some clam juice to thin the dip to the desired consistency if necessary.
  • In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Add the sour cream, garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, dried parsley, drained minced clams, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir together until well combined.

Tips

  • This classic clam dip recipe is best made in advance. It gives time for the flavors to combine and the cream cheese to firm up.
  • If you can only find the canned chopped clams, I recommend mincing them yourself. You don’t want large chunks of chewy clams in the dip.
  • I use dried parsley most of the time because that’s what most people have in the pantry. But, if you happen to have fresh parsley, use one teaspoon chopped parsley.
  • You can add diced green onions, chives, or your favorite herbs.
  • Some people add yellow mustard or mustard powder. (not my thing)
  • This recipe serves 6-8 people. If you would like to double the recipe, DO NOT double the salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Season to taste!
  • Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days.

Serving Suggestions

  • A sturdy potato chip, such as Kettle Chips, is the best! But you can use a ridged chip such as Ruffles.
  • Your favorite cracker, such as Ritz, Saltine, or Club crackers.
  • Vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, celery, or broccoli.
