Summer Cocktails

About a decade ago, we lived very near the gulf coast. We enjoyed the good food, the frozen drinks, and the sound of the surf many a hot summer day. We were always on the hunt for the best grouper sandwich as well as that perfect cocktail that screamed ‘ocean paradise’. Watching the sun hang low over the gulf while keeping cool with our frosty beverages was some of our most relaxing, enjoyable days.

What we came away with, as far as what we considered as a quintessential tropical cocktail, was the “Jamaican Me Crazy”.

A decade later we recently returned to our old stomping grounds, the gulf coast,  with the sole purpose of rediscovering the mystery and delights of the ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’ cocktail so we could share it with you. We spent a few days cruising the gulf side restaurants seeking that one drink that can transport you to a dreamy tropical island complete with sparkling jewels in white-capped waters, coconut palms, and blue lagoons. And we found it.

Tropical Cocktails

There are several tropical cocktails that most have already heard about. The Pina Colada, the Strawberry Daiquiri, and the Bahama Mama. While all good, the Jamaican Me Crazy is one that most people haven’t heard of AND it’s taste SCREAMS island getaway.

The Jamaican Me Crazy blends two different kinds of rum, banana liqueur, passion fruit, and pineapple juice. It can be served over rocks or blended into a frozen drink that makes you think you’re sitting beach or poolside. The drink itself is not overly sweet, surprisingly, and the rums and banana liqueur will treat you right.

Party Drinks

If you’re having a crowd over, you can prepare beforehand by premixing several servings in a pitcher. Whether they want the party drinks over ice or frozen, you’re ready to go.

How To Make A Jamaican Me Crazy Cocktail

Frozen or on the rocks, add a wedge of pineapple and cherry to garnish … perhaps a parasol for fun … and you are good to go.

So the next time you’re cursing the heat of the summer, give this summer cocktail a try. It will beat the heat, and it will make you think of that sandy beach, that cool clear water of the bay, and relaxing in that hammock between the trees.

Skip the pina coladas, strawberry daiquiris, and frozen margarita and serve yourself and your friends the perfect drink!
