One little note. When I bbq I always add some sort of wood. If you are grilling without any wood, add 1/2 teaspoon of liquid smoke to the bbq sauce.

  • Ketchup – Standard foundation for any tomato-based BBQ sauce.
  • Bourbon – Nothing fancy, but make sure it’s real bourbon or whiskey.
  • Brown sugar
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Molasses – (not blackstrap)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Chipotle peppers in Adobo sauce(1 you get a gentle tingle, two will let you know it’s there)
  • Minced garlic (you can sub this out with 1/2 of garlic powder)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – This adds some acid to cut through the sweetness
  • Kosher salt
  • Onion powder
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Paprika – Smoked paprika if you have it

It can’t get much easier than this, gang. Put all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Whisk to combine well. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat. Continue to cook for 10 to 15 minutes, whisking as needed until the barbecue sauce gets thick and bubbly.

  • 2 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup Bourbon
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 1/4 Cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp Molasses not blackstrap
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Minced, or sub for same amount of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika Smoked or regular

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
