Tips

  • You can also make this in the oven. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F. Place the seasoned mix in a large roasting pan or a couple of rimmed baking sheets. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • When I make it in the oven, I melt the butter in the roasting pan while the oven is preheating. Once melted, I stir the seasonings into the butter, then add the snack mix ingredients and toss to coat evenly.
  • Be sure to place paper towels under the lid while it’s cooking. This will absorb any condensation and keep the Chex mix from getting wet and soggy.
  • Crockpot Chex mix can burn, so stick to the recipe cooking time.

Variations

  • You can customize this snack mix to your personal preferences. All one cereal flavor, oyster crackers, cheese crackers, bagel chips, goldfish crackers, corn nuts, sesame sticks, or Cheerios.
  • You can make it spicy by adding one tablespoon of hot sauce to the butter mixture or 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.

  1. Many recepies call for leaving the cover off during “cooking “ rather than the paper towel method you suggest . Has anyone tried it this way ?

  2. I made this today to take to a party and it burned!

It was fine after the first two hours/stirs, but when I did the final stir after the third hour it was completely black on the bottom and I couldn’t salvage the rest because it had that burned flavor.

Was so bummed! Maybe my slow cooker’s low setting is just too high?

    1. Hi Suzanne, I’ve never had it burn before. How old is your slow cooker? I had to replace mine recently due to the temperatures not being accurate any longer. I’m so sorry this happened.

    1. Hi Melissa, that means pull several sheets all together so they are long enough to lay across the top of the crock, held down by the lid but not down in the crock on top of the mix. I hope this helps. Thanks for coming by and have a blessed day!
